Berthe Amoss papers, 1966-2000.

This collection consists of original artworks, typescripts, correspondence, publisher's galley proofs, greeting cards, coloring books, post cards and other printed items relating to the career of children's author and illustrator, Berthe Amoss. Included are sketches and water color paintings for published children's books; for example, The Mysterious prowler, text by Joan Lowery Nixon with illustrations by Berthe Amoss. Her artwork and stories often portray Louisiana scenes and culture.

Berthe Amoss was born in New Orleans and attended Newcomb College and Tulane University, earning degrees in English and art. From 1982 until 1994, she taught children's literature at Tulane. She is an author and illustrator of children's books, books for young adults, and how-to books. She has designed advent calendars for the National Gallery of Art.
